Press Release Body = Denver, CO. Oct. 24, 2006 - Teleologic Learning Company, in partnership with the Institute for Preventive Strategies at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, KY was awarded the bronze medal in the prestigious Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Awards. This program sets the bar for excellence in web-based education and training world-wide. More than 630 e-learning experts from 44 countries judged the competition, rating each entry on the interactivity, level of engagement, and presentation of material. The Prevention Certificate competed against e-learning leaders from around the globe, including companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, A.S.K. Learning and CISCO.
Competing in the 'Custom Content' category, the 'Homeland Security Terrorism Prevention Certificate for Law Enforcement Professionals' is a simulation-based training program for first responders that focuses on threat recognition, risk management, and prevention. Participants enter the virtual jurisdiction of 'San Luis Rey' and attempt to uncover and neutralize threats to the community by collaborating with other local officials to gather intelligence, manage the risks, and make decisions to thwart the terrorist plot. Failure to master preventive concepts results in realistic catastrophic outcomes in this virtual world.
About the Course The Terrorism Prevention Certificate challenges first responders in law enforcement to think beyond their traditional response and recovery training to take on the role of First Preventer. The National Strategy for Homeland Security identifies prevention as the key policy for protecting the United States from terrorist attacks. However, this broad policy has not been translated into practical guidelines that every first responder can use to detect and stop attacks before they occur.
The Terrorism Prevention Certificate fills a training void. Engaging with highly interactive, realistic, decision-based simulations, participants make difficult choices that carry consequences as they work to counter a realistic terrorist threat developing in the virtual San Louis Rey jurisdiction. After successfully completing the course, participants are prepared to build prevention capacity at the local level that is consistent with national strategic policy.
Lonnie Lawson, President & CEO of The Center for Rural Development, commented, "We are extremely excited about the training exercise and our partnership with Teleologic. The responses we have received from our test market validate that this award is well deserved. There is great value in collaborating for the common good."
Philip Palin, CEO of Teleologic Learning Company, said, \"Teleologic has valued the opportunity to work with the Institute for Preventive Strategies to design and develop this innovative approach to learning. The best learning often happens when we make mistakes. In dealing with terrorism it is clearly better to make mistakes in a realistic online exercise than in dealing with the real threat.\"
